Henry R. Montoya

I work in association operations and technology.

I'm the CRM & Customer Service Operations Lead on the Service Center team at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, where I work on how the team uses Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Service and the automation and AI tools in it.

About

Before this role, I spent seven years on staff at ALPFA, a national professional association. My two biggest areas were registration and attendance for the national convention, and the process for tracking sponsor and partner deliverables until each one was fulfilled. Some of our platforms had been set up but never had business processes in them, and I created those processes with the teams that used them. I love creating and standardizing processes. I'm a Marine Corps veteran, and I'm based in Chicago.

On the side, I run Rakvia (opens in new tab), a consulting practice that helps small nonprofits and small businesses manage their records in a CRM.

Where I land on AI

I reach for AI when it makes a system more reliable or faster, and the system still has to work without it.

Something I made

  • Plumón (opens in new tab) When I needed a cleaner way to turn screenshots into private, step-by-step how-tos, I built my own Mac app. Nothing it captures ever leaves your machine.
  • Illinois Veteran Employment & Business Data Public data for Illinois veterans weighing a big career decision: where federal contractors hire veterans, which businesses survive, and the trade-offs the numbers can't decide for you.

Off the clock

I go to association events like ASAE, Association Latinos, and Association Forum, and to veteran community events, including outdoor trips. I plan outings with my family, I see a lot of movies, especially sci-fi, and now and then I'm back in VR for a few rounds of Population One.
